When two eclipses are separated by a period of one Saros, they share a very similar geometry. The eclipses occur at the same node with the Moon at nearly the same distance from Earth and at the same time of year. Thus, the Saros is useful for organizing eclipses into families or series. I am sharing some interesting facts about Cabot's navigational charts.

The Lunar Eclipse data, may be of interest to you, in other books
or articles you write, in the category of navigators/explorers !

Interesting, that the next Lunar Eclipse is set for June 15th, 2011.

And John Cabot mapped a asteroid, set for June 15th, 2008.

Also Lunar Eclipses of Saros 130, were tracked to the first Saros, dated

During Cabot lifetime, the Saros, would be active in the years :
1452, 1470 and 1488 ( Cabot died in the year, 1498 ).

So Cabot, as a navigational chart explorer, would have knowledge
of the Lunar Eclipses of Saros.
When Cabot was 20 years old, the Saros happened on July 13, 1470.
And ten years before his death, the Saros happened on July 23rd, 1488.

So twice in Cabot's lifetime as a explorer, he would have experienced the Saro's . . .in his journey's !
